Jay-Z's Made in America, a two-day music festival in Philadelphia, was canceled just one month before it was scheduled to take place. The festival's organizers cited "severe circumstances out of production's control" as the reason for the cancellation, but one has to wonder if the real reason is the ongoing lawsuit against headliner Lizzo.
In June, the festival announced that SZA and Lizzo would be headlining the 2023 event. The
announcement was met with excitement from fans, who were eager to see two of the biggest names in music perform together. However, Lizzo, a name often synonymous with empowerment and celebration, has recently been embroiled in legal turmoil, facing serious allegations from former dancers. The lawsuit's claims range from false imprisonment and fat shaming to assault, casting a shadow over her public image. The suit has been highly publicized, especially on Twitter and TikTok. This could have scared off the festival organizers, who are concerned about the negative publicity, or it could have been Lizzo's choice to pull out of this and any other event until this matter is settled.
Either way, the timing is suspicious and, I am sure, disappointing to fans. It must be noted that Lizzo has denied the allegations, but the damage to her reputation may be irreparable. Only time will tell what the future holds for her.
Sidenote: I have read the lawsuit, and there are a lot of vibes, feelings, and holes in the dancers' stories. They may have some legit claims, but it was not fully explained in the court documents, IMO. Believing the victim does not mean suspending critical thinking, so it is what it is. I may do a breakdown in another post.
Speak, Heart, Share...Thanks!
I like the new format very cute! And I haven't read the suits but after watching the TMZ clip it gives off maybe there were friend/ employer boundaries crossed.
