Pop Megan has arrived!
This is not a full review because I am too damn tired, but I wanted to get something up for those who want to talk about this song ASAP.
I can honestly say that "Sweetest Pie" lived up to the snippets. This is what 34 + 35 Remix was supposed to be, LOL. It's a very catchy Rap-Pop (not Pop-Rap) song. It has a crossover appeal without being cheesy.
I have to say that I think Dua Lipa is a better fit for Megan than the other girl.
As for the music video - I LOVE IT! I have always said that Megan is the cinematic girl. However, I need to watch the video again to find the easter eggs and the references.
I know everyone will be talking about the charts. I feel like this could do for Meg what "Big Energy" is doing for Latto, but it's really up to the Pop fans.

Ok, I wanted to add more about the music video now that I am not half-asleep. The opening scene with the two guys walking through the forest, going into Meg and Dua's lair, feasting on all those sugary sweets, and then ending up in that boiling pot is from the children's story Hansel and Gretel.
I want that nasty, that freaky stuff (Freaky stuff)
Live under my bed and keep me up (Hey)
Also, if you notice before the men try to burn Megan and Dua Lipa at the stake, they turn into the "dusties" that probably listen to Joe Budden, Akademiks, and all those podcasts aimed at bashing women for entertainment.
That ending scene, I know I have seen it before but I cannot place the movie. If you know leave it below.
Also, let me say something about "Pop Megan."
This song is getting great reviews, however, I see concerns that Megan's album may end up being too Pop. I don't think that will be the case. Megan has been vocal about there being music she wants to do and then there is music her label wants. "Sweetest Pie" is a great compromise song IMO. Megan got to talk her shit using a catchy Pop-friendly sound, without having to overly rely on a well-known sample. Also, the song is not cheesy or corny, so it does not mess up her brand.
There is a saying, "Do What You Have To Do, So You Can Do What You Want To Do."
Megan being successful with this song will not force Megan to be more Pop unless she wants to go in that direction. What it does is give her more leverage with her label, etc, and allow her to do more of what she wants. I think that is why there are talks of her having her own label imprint.
Besides adding some contrast to her upcoming album, this song will help Megan when she tours. I am a huge Usher fan. I love R&B Usher to death. When he went Pop/EDM, he was met with some backlash by his core fans, even though he was hella successful. It wasn't about him being diverse, it was about he sold out cause we know Black people can't be diverse...🙄.
Well, let me tell you. When I went to see him in concert, those Pop/EDM songs go off in the arenas. All those complaints people have when they hear a song on the radio, go away once you see it live during a show. His show was amazing and him having a catalog that has the R&B and the Pop/EDM actually made it a great experience that never fell flat for me.
I think "Sweetest Pie" is going to help Megan with her Usher moment. At shows, she can give fans "Big Ole Freak," "Savage," "Thot Shit," and "Sweetest Pie." All have different sounds but all are great songs.
Say Sumthin, Tap The Heart, Share...Thanks!
People always talk about who is setting the trends in female rap. There isn't just one girl, but Megan's presence is definitely felt. Now, everyone is claiming their fave is the "IT GIRL."
How the fck did Megan's Piano get pulled from her album?
Y'all female rap has become a narrative game for those who can't compete with just music. Can you guess which STAN-base this person belongs to???
Kanye's boy, Mike Dean, did the mixing and mastering engineer on the song🔥.
Meg needs to keep him cause on some of her song, there have definitely been some issues in that department.

Anthony, who appeared in the video, thanked Megan and Dua Lipa.
